Blogging is a phenomenal way to get free website traffic. However, blogs are like any other website. If you don't make any moves, you won't get more website traffic it's as simple as that. Yet, don't necessarily focus on pay-per-clicks and other similar marketing methods, at least not at first. Instead, start out by submitting your blog as an RSS feed. Depending on your content, you may get enough traffic just from that one action.

You CAN do everything.

You CAN do everything. What you cannot do, however, is do everything at the same time, or create a day thats longer than 24 hours.

The two most important aspects of time management are acceptance and choice. When you think of time in terms of acceptance and choice, youre never wrong, bad, or lazy, youve just made certain choices. When you think in terms of discipline and willpower, however, your inner critic can really do a number on you. We already have low self-esteem as artists; lets not add to the problem!!

An example of this from my own life is that I choose to live alone instead of with a roommate; that means I also choose higher rent and the need to bring in enough income to cover that rent. When sneaky thoughts of resentment or self-pity creep in to my head, I need to remember the choice that I made, and I need to accept this is how things are for now.

Here are some tips for using choice and acceptance to manage your time.

Decide what you want to have time for. What keeps getting pushed to the back burner or rushed through? How will you spend your time once youve made your songwriting dreams come true and youve become the artist youre meant to be? Nourish this vision until its clear in your mind. Its essential to know what youre working towards. Remember, you wont always be this busy unless you choose to be.

Choose not to be this busy for one week, track your time using a time log. You can make one yourself; simply chart out (on paper or on the computer) your day in fifteen-minute intervals and then record what you do in each of those blocks of time. Completing a time log will illuminate how much time youre spending on different things. Look carefully at the choices youre making. What do you most want to do with the time you have available?

Accept your day job for what it is a source of the financial support you need to eat and live and write songs! Practice feeling grateful for the job you have, instead of feeling resentful about the time its taking away from your songwriting. For instance, what recording equipment, CDs, manuscript paper, software programs or musical instruments have you bought from the money you earned in this job? Also, the job is giving you life experiences, and most likely lots of opportunities to interact with other people. Your passion is to communicate with people through your music how can you take some of that passion and apply it to your day-to-day interactions? What kind of stories do your co-workers have to tell? What ideas do those stir up for you that you can use in your writing?

Look for a day job thats meaningful and thats taking you in the direction of your dreams. Do you need some ideas? Try meditating to access inner wisdom and spiritual guidance. If songwriting is your primary passion, whats your second passion? What ELSE gets your juices flowing? Theres no need to be in a job that doesnt make you feel alive, in order to support what does. Some artists that I know get lots of fulfillment from teaching children or adults about their craft. Others take jobs that involve public speaking, to give them more experience and confidence talking to groups. Some take jobs in music stores, where they can have lots of time to learn about the newest equipment, meet lots of fellow artists, and get a discount, to boot!

Schedule time with yourself for your songwriting, collaborating and rehearsing. Keep these dates with yourself and others as sacred appointments!

Be good to your body and dont sacrifice sleep for productivity (if you keep doing that, you wont be in much shape to produce anything!).

There are only a couple of things that we really NEED to do every day. Everything else is a choice.

Almost everyone these days has an ipod -- one of those tiny little devices that shoots your favorite tunes right into your ears via those almost invisible headphones. Even a lot of moms and dads are buying into the ipod craze now, especially if they like oldies music that is hard to find on the radio anymore. To Learn How to Compose Learn How to Improvise

As I sit here writing this listening to Mozart, I can't help but think of musical form. That sometimes but often not discernible quality to music that makes it art. And when I say art, I'm not talking about improvisation or free form. I'm talking about composition.

Most students are baffled as to how a piece of music is constructed. It's as if learning how to compose is something only gifted individuals do. And while the intuitive sense behind creating melody itself can not be taught, the craft can!

Form is to music what flower arranging is to the florist. You see, it's all about creating a structure. In flower arranging, the goal is to create something pleasing to the eye. This is accomplished by how the florist places the flowers. He's not going to stack them all to one side. No. He wants to create something that allows the eye to go back and forth. Something that the viewer can take as a complete experience. Music is much the same way.

If we played the same thing over and over we get monotony. If we vary the music too much we get incoherence. The solution? Go back and forth between sections! Now this is easy to grasp intellectually. The difficulty comes when students attempt to create their first composition and end up with something less than satisfactory. And this is because most students haven't learned to trust their intuition.

You see, to be able to compose, you must have the ability to move forward without criticizing yourself. This is THE most important skill and one that can be developed through learning how to improvise. I always suggest students learn how to improvise first. Then when the internal critic is gone, they can move forward with their ideas. It seems strange that improvisation should come before composition but if you want to develop quickly you do really need to free yourself from judging the product and have the ability to move forward. Then, when you learn how to compose by using sections, you won't be as daunted and stuck at every little detail.

An Introduction to DJ Equipment

Historically, a DJ setup has consisted of two turntables, a mixer and some speakers. But today, thanks to new technological innovations, DJs can choose from a selection of different means of playing their music. They can use turntables, CD turntables, computer software or any combination therein. Each of these categories are described more in detail in their own sections.

Turntables - While these might look like those things your parents played records on, the similarities end there. DJ turntables offer several features not found on a regular turntable. The most important of these is the ability to increase or decrease the speed that the record is moving. This lets you match the tempo of two songs so that you can blend them together.

CD Turntables - These are CD players that play regular CDs. However, they also allow you to change the tempo of a song so that you can mix it into another. Many DJs today prefer this type of turntable because it allows them to use CDs rather than vinyl.

Computer Software - Some DJs have moved beyond turntables and solely use software to mix their music. This is still a new area of DJing and lots of the older DJs look down on people who use this method. However, many of the famous DJs are now solely performing with software such as Ableton Live.

Mixer - A mixer has at least two audio channels which will be connected to whatever you are using to play your music. This allows you to control the volume of each song. The mixer also has a fader which allows you to fade from one song to the other. A DJ further controls the music by using a Mixer's EQ. An EQ can increase or decrease certain frequencies of a song; its treble, mids or bass. A DJ can make a mix sound very smooth with proper adjustment of these levels.

Headphones - All DJs need a good pair of professional headphones. Those old walkman headphones are not going to cut it - the professional models pack increased volume and the sound separation you will need to follow a mix. DJs use headphones to listen to their mix on a separate channel of the mixer that is not playing over the speakers; this allows them to get their mix sounding good before the crowd hears it.

Cartridges (aka Needles) - If you are using turntables, you will need these. They attach to the tone arm of the turntable and slip into the groove of the vinyl records. They are what translate the vinyl into sound. If you are using needles that are too old and worn out then you will damage your records and the sound will be horrible.

Digital DJing - This is a new area of DJing that has been catching on like wildfire. Just about every club and touring DJ today is using some digital djing tool. Unlike software only techniques, there is no stigma attached to this category. This is because the digital djing devices hook your computer up to whatever type of turntable you are using. It merges both the old school with the new. For example, Serato's Scratch Live is a hardware device that you plug both your turntable and laptop into. It then can map an mp3 from your laptop onto your turntable, allowing you to manipulate the mp3 in realtime just like you would a vinyl record or CD.

1 Playing the root of the chord.

Bass players get maximum mileage by simply playing the root of the chord during each bar.

What is the root? It is the letter used in the name of the chord!

For Cmaj7 just play C, For Cm7 just play C, For C7 just play C, For Cmaj7+11 just play C

For Bbmaj7 just play Bb, For Fm7 just play F, For A7 just play A, For Gmaj7+11 just play G

possible progression and bassline:

If you are aware that the bass is playing a G on beat 1 of bar 1, then you've got to try a G chord first.
